History & Significance

In his second year, Agricola consolidated the gains of Cerialis and Frontinus, pushing into the territory between the Humber and the Solway. Tacitus is vague about the details but mentions new peoples being conquered and Roman forts extended in a great arc. This is the year Agricola established the Stanegate road line and the system of forts across the Tyne-Solway isthmus that would later become Hadrian's Wall.
