The Parliamentary Surrey county committee conducted operations in 1643 to suppress Royalist resistance in the eastern Surrey Weald around Godstone and Bletchingley. The area harboured Catholic recusant families with Royalist sympathies who resisted Parliamentary authority and sequestration orders, and Surrey horse were deployed to break up local Royalist organisation.
