The Battle

History & Significance

Jeremiah Brandreth led approximately 200 men from Pentrich village toward Nottingham believing simultaneous risings across England would overthrow the government. The march was organised partly through government spy William Oliver who deceived the conspirators about support elsewhere. The march collapsed when no other risings materialised.
