The Battle

History & Significance

After Lambert's crossing of the Forth and the battle of Inverkeithing in July 1651, English forces swept through Fife encountering scattered Scottish resistance. Local Covenanting forces attempted to hold towns and castles across the Kingdom of Fife but English cavalry were too numerous and well-organised. The fall of Fife opened the road to Perth and completed the strategic outflanking of the Stirling position.
