History & Significance

Leeds was a major Parliamentary centre in the West Riding, with strong support among the cloth-working population. After Adwalton Moor it became untenable and was abandoned by Parliamentary forces. The loss of Leeds ended organised Parliamentary resistance in the West Riding until the reconquest following Marston Moor in 1644.
