The Battle

History & Significance

Carlisle was seized in the Second Civil War by Sir Philip Musgrave for the king after a Royalist uprising in Cumberland. Parliamentary forces besieged the city and it was surrendered after the collapse of the Scottish Engager invasion following Preston.
