The Battle

History & Significance

Over three decades after the proscription of 1603, MacGregor bands continued to operate in the Trossachs around Loch Katrine and Loch Lomond. Government parties hunting them were frequently ambushed. The MacGregors knowledge of the terrain gave them a permanent advantage over searchers unfamiliar with the ground. The clan maintained a shadow existence in their ancestral lands throughout the seventeenth century.
