History & Significance

Madog ap Llywelyn's revolt of 1294-95 — the last serious attempt to throw off English rule after Llywelyn's death — was crushed at Maes Moydog. English cavalry broke the Welsh spearmen. Edward I's subsequent construction of Beaumaris Castle was his final act of Welsh subjugation.
