History & Significance

When Viscount Dundee raised the Jacobite standard in 1689, Lochiel of the Camerons was one of the first and most important chiefs to join him. Before marching to Killiecrankie, the Camerons secured their own territory by expelling government agents and sympathisers from Lochaber. The clan mobilisation was one of the largest and most disciplined in the 1689 rising and the Camerons formed the core of the Highland charge at Killiecrankie.
