The Battle

History & Significance

After Kilsyth, Montrose moved on Dundee and his Highland army plundered the town. While his troops were occupied with looting, a Covenanting force under Baillie approached. Montrose had to use all his skill to extract his army before it was caught in the town. The episode showed the discipline problems of Highland armies and was a dress rehearsal for the disaster at Philiphaugh.
