The Battle

History & Significance

The victory at Inverurie was a turning point in Bruces northern campaign. Bruce had been so ill his men had to carry him in a litter. When told the Comyn forces were approaching he insisted on being placed on his horse to lead the attack. The Comyns — seeing Bruce apparently still capable of fighting — lost their nerve and fled without a proper battle. Their power in Aberdeenshire was destroyed. Bruce ravaged the Comyn lands of Buchan afterward in what became known as the Harrying of Buchan — a deliberate destruction that prevented any future Comyn opposition.

Casualties & Losses

Comyn forces routed; heavy losses in subsequent Harrying of Buchan
