History & Significance

Alasdair MacColla led a devastating raid through the Campbell heartland of Lorn following the fall of Inveraray in early 1645. MacColla's Irish and Highland force burned Campbell townships, seized livestock and systematically devastated the economic base of Clan Campbell in their own territory. These operations continued over several weeks as Montrose prepared his winter strategy.
