History & Significance

Warwick, Salisbury and the Earl of March landed at Sandwich in June 1460 and marched on London, which opened its gates to them. The Archbishop of Canterbury met them with a large London retinue. The Sandwich landing was made possible by the earlier raid that neutralised the royal fleet.
