The Battle

History & Significance

Cadwgan ap Bleddyn of Powys raided through Ceredigion in one of several Welsh counter-attacks against Norman penetration of west Wales. Cadwgan's son Owain had scandalously abducted Nest, wife of Gerald of Windsor (the Pembroke constable), which provoked Anglo-Norman pursuit. Welsh forces in Ceredigion used the forest terrain to conduct guerrilla operations against Norman outposts.
