History & Significance

A ragged Covenanting army defeated the dragoons of John Graham of Claverhouse (later Viscount Dundee / Bonnie Dundee) on the boggy ground of Drumclog. The Covenanters used the marsh to neutralise the cavalry. Claverhouse barely escaped. The victory briefly raised Covenanting hopes before their destruction at Bothwell Bridge three weeks later.
