Outcome
The Jacobite army under Charles Edward Stuart, marching south from Perth on 11 September 1745, avoided the guns of Stirling Castle and the cut/defended Stirling Bridge by fording the River Forth at the Fords of Frew, six miles upstream. No government dragoons were present to oppose the crossing; Gardiner's dragoons had already begun withdrawing ahead of the Jacobite advance, and no engagement took place.
