Antonine Wall, Lime Road to Tamfourhill is a section of the Roman frontier fortification that extended across central Scotland during the second century AD. The wall formed part of the defensive system constructed under the Emperor Antoninus Pius, likely between 142 and 160 AD, and represents Rome's most northerly permanent frontier in Britain. This particular stretch in Stirlingshire preserves evidence of the wall's characteristic ditch and rampart construction, demonstrating the engineering techniques employed across its roughly 60-kilometre length from the Forth to the Clyde. The site's designation reflects its importance as part of this significant Roman military monument, which was ultimately abandoned within a few decades as Roman forces withdrew southward to Hadrian's Wall.
