Antonine Wall, Callendar Park, Falkirk is a section of the turf-built Roman frontier constructed in the second century CE, specifically during the governorship of Antoninus Pius around 142 CE. The wall here survives as a substantial earthwork comprising a ditch and rampart, representing one of the more prominent upstanding remains of this northern frontier line that stretched across central Scotland from the Firth of Clyde to the Firth of Forth. The site lies within Callendar Park, a historic designed landscape, which has preserved and protected this Roman monument through centuries of landscaping. This section of the Antonine Wall is of considerable archaeological and historical importance as evidence of Rome's attempt to establish and maintain a permanent forward military frontier in Britain during the second century.
