Back Bay Fort is an Iron Age fortified settlement located in Wigtownshire, south-western Scotland, situated approximately 580 metres south of Knock near Monreith. The fort represents a defensive structure typical of the Iron Age period in south-western Scotland, when such hillforts and coastal fortifications served as centres of settlement and control. The site's location on the Wigtownshire coast reflects the strategic importance of maritime access during this period. As with many Iron Age forts in the region, Back Bay Fort would have functioned as a territorial marker and place of refuge for the local community during the prehistoric and proto-historic transition in Atlantic Britain.
