Black Hill is an Iron Age fort situated 650 metres north-west of Craighead in Lanarkshire, Scotland. The fort occupies a defensible hilltop position where the underlying bedrock comprises Kirkcolm Formation wacke, a hard sedimentary stone deposited during the Caradocian period of the Ordovician. This geology would have provided a stable foundation for construction and natural resistance to erosion, advantageous qualities for a fortified settlement of the Iron Age period.
