Bradwell Castle Mound is a motte and bailey castle located approximately 80 metres north-east of St. Lawrence's Church in Buckinghamshire. The site comprises a substantial earthwork mound typical of Norman fortifications erected in England following the Conquest of 1066. The monument survives as a prominent topographical feature and represents an important example of early medieval defensive architecture in the county. Such motte and bailey fortifications were characteristic of the eleventh and twelfth centuries, serving as administrative and military centres for Norman lords establishing control over their newly acquired territories.
