Brockloch is a post-medieval farmstead and field system located one kilometre west-north-west of Fraserford in Dumfriesshire, south-western Scotland. The site occupies land underlain by Gala Group bedrock of Telychian age, a hard wacke formation characteristic of the Southern Uplands geology of this region. The monument comprises the remains of a farmstead with its associated agricultural fields, representing the distinctive settlement and land-use patterns of rural Dumfriesshire from the sixteenth century onwards.
The farmstead and its field system reflect the gradual reorganisation of the landscape during the post-medieval period, when dispersed farm settlements became established across the Scottish Borders and Dumfries region. Such sites typically show evidence of small-scale pastoral farming adapted to the local topography and soil conditions. The wacke bedrock at Brockloch would have presented both challenges and opportunities for cultivation and stock-rearing.
