Broomhillbank fort is an Iron Age fortification located in Dumfriesshire, in the south of Scotland. The fort sits upon bedrock of the Hawick Group, a formation of wacke stone laid down during the Wenlock period of the Silurian. This hard, fine-grained sedimentary rock provided a solid foundation for the settlement and lies exposed across much of the surrounding landscape.
The fort is constructed as a hillfort with defensive earthworks typical of Iron Age communities in the southern uplands. These fortifications would have served both as a place of refuge and as a focal point for settlement, trade and communal activity during the pre-Roman Iron Age, a period of considerable cultural development across the region.
