Cairnshee is a post-medieval field system and farmstead located 700 metres west-south-west of Kincardineshire in north-east Scotland. The monument occupies ground underlain by Argyll Group bedrock, a sequence of metamorphic rocks—psammite, semipelite and pelite—formed during the Neoproterozoic era and now exposed as part of the Dalradian geology characteristic of this region.
The site comprises the remains of an agricultural settlement dating from the period following the sixteenth century, when rural Scotland underwent significant reorganisation of its landscape. The field system visible at Cairnshee represents the enclosed fields and cultivation patterns that accompanied the consolidation of farming practices during this era, reflecting changes in land management and tenure across Kincardineshire's farming communities.
