History & significance

Cambuskenneth Abbey is a Augustinian monastery founded in the early twelfth century, situated on a bend of the River Forth near Stirling in Perthshire. The abbey was established around 1147 by King David I of Scotland and became one of the most important religious houses in medieval Scotland, serving as a royal foundation of considerable political and spiritual significance. The surviving remains include a distinctive round tower, likely dating to the thirteenth century, along with fragmentary stone structures of the claustral buildings.
