Camster Broch is a Iron Age fortified roundhouse situated approximately 500 metres south of Lower Camster in Caithness, northern Scotland. The monument is characteristic of the broch type, a distinctive form of defensive stone tower construction that flourished in northern Britain during the Iron Age, typically between the 1st century BC and 1st century AD. Broch structures were built with thick stone walls containing internal galleries and chambers, and served as high-status residences or fortified settlements for local populations.
