Carn Liath is a broch located approximately 6.4 kilometres east-north-east of Golspie in Sutherland, northern Scotland. This Iron Age fortified circular stone tower dates to the first centuries AD and exemplifies the distinctive architectural tradition of brochs found throughout Scotland during this period. The monument's substantial drystone masonry walls, characteristically hollow in their construction, would originally have risen to a considerable height and housed multiple internal galleries and chambers within their thickness. Like other brochs of its type, Carn Liath likely served as a defended residence and status symbol for the local elite, commanding views across the surrounding landscape and the adjacent coastal plains.
