Castell Dinefwr is a medieval castle occupying a commanding hilltop position in the Tywi Valley near Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire, Wales. The site has origins in the early medieval period and was developed as a significant stronghold of the Welsh princes, particularly the lords of Deheubarth, with major construction and consolidation occurring from the twelfth century onwards. The castle comprises a substantial stone keep or tower together with defensive earthworks and curtain walls typical of the medieval period. Castell Dinefwr remained an important centre of Welsh power until the late medieval period and is recorded as one of the key fortifications of native Welsh rule before the final conquest of Wales by Edward I.
