The site comprises an earthwork mound typical of Norman fortifications, representing a form of castle design that was widespread in England following the Norman Conquest of 1066. The monument was subsequently modified during the Second World War, when it was incorporated into the local airfield defences, demonstrating the site's strategic significance across multiple historical periods.
