Castlelaw fort and souterrain is an Iron Age fortified settlement located in Midlothian, Scotland, comprising a hilltop fort with associated underground stone-built passage. The fort itself consists of a substantial rampart enclosing an oval interior, typical of Iron Age defensive architecture in southeast Scotland, likely constructed sometime during the Iron Age period. The souterrain, a subterranean stone-lined structure positioned approximately 205 metres north-northwest of the fort's main defences, represents a distinctive form of Iron Age settlement infrastructure, possibly serving storage, refuge, or ritual purposes. Such dual structures indicate a settlement of some significance and resource investment during the Iron Age occupation of the Lothian region.
