Chalkieside enclosure is a post-medieval field enclosure located approximately 400 metres south-south-west of Chalkieside in Midlothian, Scotland. The monument consists of a rectilinear enclosure, characteristic of early modern agricultural improvements and land organisation in the Scottish Lowlands. Dating to the post-medieval period, this enclosure represents the systematic reorganisation of the rural landscape that occurred as farming practices evolved from the medieval strip-field system towards more efficient consolidated holdings. Such enclosures are significant evidence of the agricultural and social changes that transformed Scottish rural settlement and land use between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries.
