Chertsey Abbey is a Benedictine monastery founded in 666 AD on the banks of the River Thames in Surrey, England, making it one of the oldest religious houses in the kingdom. The abbey became one of the most significant landholders in medieval Surrey and enjoyed considerable wealth and influence throughout the medieval period. Little survives of the original structures today; the site now comprises fragmentary ruins and earthworks, with some material evidence preserved in museums. The abbey was dissolved during the Reformation in 1537, and its lands subsequently passed into secular ownership.
