Corrieyairack Pass is a military road constructed in the 1730s under the direction of General George Wade as part of the strategic network of Highland routes following the Jacobite rising of 1715. The road runs between Melgarve and Allt Ruadh through challenging terrain in Inverness-shire, rising to approximately 2,500 feet and featuring notable zigzag sections engineered to manage the steep gradient of the pass itself. Built primarily of stone with a width suited to military traffic, the route represented a significant logistical achievement in its time, enabling the rapid movement of government troops and supplies through previously difficult mountain terrain.
