Corrieyairack Pass is a military road constructed in the 1730s as part of the British military infrastructure programme following the 1715 Jacobite Rising. The road was built under the direction of Major William Caulfeild and formed part of a wider network designed to improve military access and control across the Scottish Highlands. The section between Allt Ruadh and the watershed comprises a constructed route that traverses difficult mountain terrain in Inverness-shire, featuring characteristic engineered drainage and surfacing appropriate to eighteenth-century military road standards. The pass remains substantially visible in the landscape as a testament to early modern Highland infrastructure development and the military consolidation of British authority in Scotland.
