Corrieyairack Pass is a military road constructed in the early 18th century as part of the network of Highland routes developed following the Jacobite uprisings. The road was built under the direction of Major William Caulfeild between 1731 and 1732, forming a key strategic link through the Monadhliath Mountains in Inverness-shire, connecting the garrison at Fort Augustus to the southern Highlands. The surviving section between Black Burn and Connachie Burn preserves evidence of its original construction methods, including characteristic steep grades and the distinctive zigzag pattern of the ascent designed to manage the challenging mountain terrain. This route represents an important example of early Georgian military infrastructure and remains substantially extant as a walking route across the high moorland landscape.
