Coul Point crannog is a multi-period lakeshore settlement located 750 metres south of the former Carn Dubh in Scotland. The site comprises a timber-built artificial island or crannog that was occupied from the Iron Age through the Medieval period, demonstrating sustained use across more than a thousand years. Such crannogs typically consisted of timber roundhouses constructed on platforms within shallow water, serving as defended domestic settlements. The survival of waterlogged deposits at such sites makes them archaeologically significant for preserving organic remains and providing detailed evidence of prehistoric and early historic settlement patterns in Scotland.
