Constructed during the early 1940s, the airfield served as a Royal Air Force station and played a role in the defence and operations of eastern Scotland throughout the war years. The site retains physical evidence of its military heritage, including remains of dispersed structures and runway infrastructure characteristic of wartime airfield construction.
