Cwm Pelenna Colliery Ventilation Furnace is a Post Medieval and Modern industrial structure located in Wales, designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM GM458) by Cadw. The furnace dates from the period of intensive coal extraction in South Wales during the nineteenth century, when such installations were essential infrastructure for mining operations. Ventilation furnaces served the critical function of drawing fresh air through colliery workings and expelling dangerous gases, thereby enabling deeper and more extensive mining. The physical remains of the furnace survive as evidence of the technological and industrial development of the Welsh coalfield during this period of significant economic expansion.
