Dovecote south of Milcombe Hall Farm is a stone-built structure of medieval or early post-medieval date, typical of the agricultural infrastructure that served substantial rural estates in Oxfordshire. The building functioned as a dovecote, providing a controlled environment for the breeding and housing of domestic pigeons, which constituted an important source of protein and fresh meat for the household it served, particularly during winter months when other livestock were slaughtered. Its survival to the present day, despite the decline of such structures from the eighteenth century onwards, makes it a valuable record of medieval and early modern farming practice and rural economy in the county.
