Dungannon castle is a post-medieval fortification located in Dungannon, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. The castle served as a significant stronghold of the O'Neill dynasty, particularly during the sixteenth century when the O'Neills held considerable power in Ulster. The site represents both defensive military architecture and, in later phases, domestic residence, reflecting the transition from strictly martial to residential fortification typical of late medieval and early modern Irish lordly residences. Although the castle no longer stands, its archaeological and historical significance lies in its association with one of Ireland's most prominent Gaelic Irish families during a period of considerable political and military importance in Irish history.
