Gorseddau or Ynysypandy Slate Factory is a post-medieval and modern slate mill situated in Wales and protected by Cadw as a scheduled monument under reference CN160. The factory exploited the slate-bearing geology of the region, which rests upon Llanvirn Rocks of Whiterock age, composed principally of mudstone, siltstone and sandstone. These sedimentary strata, formed during the Ordovician period, naturally split into thin sheets suitable for roofing tiles and other slate products, making this location particularly advantageous for industrial quarrying and processing.
The mill operated during the period when Welsh slate production was expanding to meet demand from building and construction industries. The site's proximity to suitable slate deposits and its location within Wales's established slate-working heartland made it a logical focus for manufacturing activity.
