Killumpha is a Bronze Age standing stone located in Wigtownshire, south-west Scotland, situated approximately 1140 metres north-east of the settlement from which it takes its name. The monument stands on bedrock formed from the Gala Group, a sequence of wacke deposits laid down during the Telychian period of the Ordovician epoch, some 430 million years ago. This geology is characteristic of the Southern Uplands and would have been well-known to Bronze Age communities working and travelling across the region.
Standing stones are amongst the most enduring monuments of the Bronze Age in Scotland, typically erected between 2500 and 1000 BC as markers of territorial, ceremonial or burial significance.
