Kirkmaiden Church is a medieval church and churchyard situated 500 metres north of Mull of Galloway Farm in Wigtownshire, south-western Scotland. The monument occupies ground formed from Hawick Group wacke bedrock, dating to the Wenlock period of the Silurian era. This hard, fine-grained sedimentary rock underlies much of this remote peninsula and would have presented significant challenges to medieval builders and workers maintaining the site.
