Light Anti-aircraft battery on Holton Heath, 210m west of Sandford House is a Second World War defensive installation dating from 1940–1945. The battery comprises earthwork remains and structures characteristic of light anti-aircraft gun positions constructed during the period of German aerial threat to southern England. Such installations were positioned across Dorset to provide protection against low-flying enemy aircraft and formed part of the comprehensive air defence network established following the Battle of Britain. The site preserves archaeological evidence of wartime military engineering and operational deployment on the Purbeck heathland.
