Little Parndon moated site is a medieval earthwork monument located in Essex, England. The site comprises a moated enclosure, a form of domestic settlement defence and status display characteristic of the medieval period, particularly from the twelfth century onwards. The moat survives as a substantial water-filled or water-logged ditch surrounding what would have been a residential platform, indicating a settlement of some social standing. Such moated sites represent an important class of archaeological evidence for understanding medieval settlement patterns and the distribution of minor gentry and substantial farming families across the English landscape.
