Llandefaelog Fach Motte is a medieval motte situated in Breconshire, Wales, representing the Norman tradition of earthwork fortification that characterised the twelfth century. The monument consists of a substantial mound with associated earthworks typical of motte-and-bailey structures, which served as the physical manifestation of Norman territorial control in the Welsh borderlands during the period following the Norman conquest of England. Like many such fortifications in Breconshire, it formed part of the network of defensive works established to secure newly conquered lands and facilitate lordly administration over the surrounding countryside. The site remains substantially preserved as an earthwork monument, preserving evidence of the medieval military and social hierarchy of the Norman period in Wales.
