Mains of Ulbster is a Neolithic chambered cairn located approximately 900 metres north-north-west of Ulbster in Caithness, northern Scotland. The monument consists of a substantial mound of stones containing an internal burial chamber, characteristic of the cairn-building tradition that flourished in northern Scotland during the Neolithic period. The structure represents the funerary practices of early farming communities who inhabited this region, with the chambered form allowing for successive interments and communal burial rites. Like other cairns of its type in Caithness, it provides archaeological evidence for the settlement patterns and ritual practices of Neolithic populations in the far north of Britain.
