Martello tower F, Marine Parade West, Clacton-on-Sea is a circular defensive tower constructed during the Napoleonic Wars, part of the extensive chain of similar fortifications built along the Essex coast between 1808 and 1812. The tower exemplifies the standardised design of these coastal defences, featuring thick brick walls and a gun platform intended to command the approaches to the shore against potential invasion. Located on the seafront at Clacton, it represents one of the surviving examples of this particular series of Martello towers, which were modelled on a tower encountered by the British at Mortella Point in Corsica. The structure remains a scheduled ancient monument, retaining historical significance as a testament to early nineteenth-century military engineering and Britain's defensive preparations during the Napoleonic period.
