Martello tower no 6, Sandgate, Folkestone is a circular defensive fortification constructed during the Napoleonic Wars in the early nineteenth century as part of a defensive chain against French invasion. Built of brick and standing approximately forty feet in height, the tower exemplifies the standardised design of English Martello towers, featuring a flat top suitable for mounting artillery and thick walls capable of withstanding cannon fire.
