Mey Battery is a coastal artillery fortification located in Caithness, northern Scotland, situated approximately eighty metres north-east of Braes of Harrow. The battery represents a defensive installation constructed during the nineteenth century to protect against naval threats, typical of the period following the Napoleonic Wars when Britain invested in coastal defences along vulnerable stretches of its shoreline. The site comprises earthwork remains characteristic of batteries of this era, with gun positions and associated fortification elements that would have accommodated artillery pieces commanding the approaches from the sea. Like many similar installations on the Scottish coast, Mey Battery reflects the strategic importance placed upon defending harbours and shipping lanes during the Victorian period.
